Barbaros Serdar Özbugutu, a key figure in the European payment industry, began his financial career in 2005 at Firstdata before moving to Telecash in 2007 as Director for the SME market. His expertise led him to become the Country Manager for Klarna in Germany in 2010, significantly contributing to the company’s success. In 2013, he co-founded iyzico, aiming to democratize financial services in Turkey. iyzico quickly became a leader in Turkey’s online payments market, attracting major investments and was dubbed “The Stripe of Turkey” by TechCrunch. By securing $28 million in funding from prestigious investors, including the International Finance Corporation, iyzico supported over 100,000 online merchants, including global brands. In 2019, PayU acquired iyzico for $165 million, with Özbugutu continuing to lead the company towards growth. Transitioning to Chairman of the Board in 2022, he also co-founded DeBa Ventures, investing in early-stage tech startups and allocating 10% of profits to their employees’ startups. Additionally, Özbugutu contributes to the entrepreneurial ecosystem as a Board member of Endeavor Turkey and a mentor for the “Turcorn 100 Program,” underlining his ongoing impact on the industry and support for high-impact entrepreneurship.
